SDCCU has helped the community properly dispose of over 4,594,000 pounds of paper since 2007

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (July 19, 2022) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is committed to helping the community properly dispose of sensitive data, an effort that landed the company a total of seven Guinness World Records® titles. SDCCU’s latest Free Shred Day Event, held at two locations on June 18, resulted in over 32,000 pounds of paper collected and shredded.

“SDCCU is pleased to provide this free service to our community to assist in properly disposing of confidential information,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “We encourage the community to take advantage of these free events to guard themselves against identity theft.”

SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 4,594,000 pounds of documents at no charge, saving over 39,050 trees (roughly 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree). The events have also saved the community roughly $501,164 in costs associated with shredding documents. SDCCU was the first financial institution and remains the only to be named a Live Well San Diego partner for its efforts in helping to create a safer San Diego by providing free shredding services to the community.
