SDCCU has helped the community properly dispose of over 4.7 million pounds of paper since 2007
SAN DIEGO, Calif., (June 3, 2025) San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is committed to helping the community properly dispose of sensitive data, an effort that landed the company a total of seven Guinness World Records® titles. SDCCU’s latest Free Shred Day Event, held at three locations on May 3, resulted in over 51,000 pounds of paper being collected and shredded.“SDCCU is pleased to provide this free service to our community and assist in properly disposing of confidential information,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “We design these events to inspire the community to participate, which helps guard them against identity theft.”
SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 4.7 million pounds of documents at no charge, saving over 40,000 trees (roughly 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree). The events have also saved the community over $520,000 in costs associated with shredding documents. SDCCU was the first financial institution to be named a Live Well San Diego partner for its efforts in helping to create a safer San Diego by providing free shredding services to the community.
