Free Fuel Friday pop up events held across San Diego County offered over 1,600 gallons of fuel to unexpecting patrons

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (May 08, 2026) – San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, hosted a series of Free Fuel Friday events on March 20, April 1, and May 8 at gas stations throughout San Diego County, surprising drivers by filling up their tanks at no cost, in an effort to support local communities and ease everyday living expenses. The third Free Fuel Friday event resulted in SDCCU covering the cost of gas for 1,622 gallons, impacting 132 members of the community.

“With gas prices continuing to impact household budgets, SDCCU was pleased to once again provide relief to the community through our free gas event,” said SDCCU president and CEO Teresa Campbell. “As a not-for-profit member-owned credit union, supporting our community during times of financial strain remains an important part of who we are.”

Free Fuel Friday is the latest addition to SDCCU’s Random Acts of Kindness initiative that brings unexpected acts of kindness, and support to members of the community. To date, SDCCU has covered the cost of gas for 5,120 gallons, impacting 453 members of the community. SDCCU’s Random Act of Kindness initiative reflects the credit union’s ongoing commitment to putting people before profits, and supporting the communities it serves. During the Free Fuel Friday events, SDCCU team members randomly selected vehicles and covered the cost of a full tank of fuel, creating unexpected financial relief during a time when gas prices continue to rise. This offer was open to all members of the community, not just SDCCU members.
