Stuff the Bus collected money to purchase over 8,850 filled backpacks and 217,140 school supplies for students experiencing homelessness

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (September 15, 2025) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions just wrapped up another year of SDCCU® Stuff the Bus and collected a total of $117,353 in San Diego County, exceeded its goal of $100,000. The monetary donations were used to fill 8,850 backpacks and purchase over 217,140 school supplies to help prepare students for success as they head back to school this year. The school supply drive, held in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and iHeartMedia radio stations in San Diego, encouraged supporters to make monetary donations online, in-branch at any SDCCU branch location or in-store at participating Jersey Mike’s locations in San Diego County.

“We are so thankful for the outpouring of generosity from our community and everyone who helped make this year’s school supply drive a success,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “Your continued support allows us to provide hundreds of students across Orange and Riverside counties with the tools they need to start the school year confident and ready to learn. We also wanted to thank our incredible partners at Jersey Mike’s who provide support for the important cause year after year.”

SDCCU Stuff the Bus provides students supplies at 25 school districts and 29 charter schools. According to SDCOE, more than 23,000 school-age children were identified as homeless during the last school year. Homelessness can mean living in a shelter, sharing a residence with whole families, living in a car or trailer or sharing a room in an apartment with relatives. Homelessness is not limited to urban, downtown San Diego — it also affects suburban school districts in many areas.

“We are so grateful to the San Diego community and everyone who donated to this incredible campaign. These funds go directly to helping students feel like they belong, right from the start,” said Dr. Gloria E. Ciriza, San Diego County superintendent of schools. “Thank you to our partners Jersey Mike’s and SDCCU for their continued support. Every donation makes a big impact on the lives of our students and their families."

“Every year we hear from local families how much it means to them to receive backpacks and supplies to start the school year,” said Susie Terry, SDCOE’s Coordinator, Homeless Education Services. “Your donations matter. Your generosity impacts students throughout the county, and we are grateful to everyone for their support."

In addition to helping students in San Diego County, the Stuff the Bus campaign reached both Orange and Riverside counties through our partnership with The Angels Baseball Foundation. Donations were collected in-branch, online and at participating Oggi’s pizza locations and totaled $5,774, which helped purchase school supplies that were distributed to students at the Angels Baseball Foundation Back 2 School Event on July 23 and will continue to support the Angels Baseball Foundation. Stuff the Bus collectively raised $123,127 for students in Southern California.
