Donations support the local literacy efforts of Southern California libraries

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (December 30, 2025) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, collected and donated 16,319 books to help support the efforts of the San Diego County Library (SDCL), Friends of the Laguna Niguel Library and Friends of the Murrieta Library to promote literacy throughout Southern California. Donations were collected at all branch locations throughout the month of October and were delivered to the libraries for distribution throughout the communities.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community in helping make our Lift Up Literacy campaign a success once again this year,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “We are proud to have collected over 14,000 books for SDCL, our legacy partner in this campaign. We are also happy to have welcomed new partners in Orange and Riverside counties this year and donated more than 2,300 books to support the great work they do. The literacy efforts of the libraries closely aligns with our own commitment to financial literacy, and we are proud to partner on this important program.”

Community donations in San Diego will support library initiatives dedicated to increasing access to reading throughout Southern California. The San Diego County Library System encourages a love of reading in every way across all branches, kiosks and Free Little Libraries which is an honor-based book exchange program encased in welcoming mailbox-like structures. Free Little Libraries are placed in areas managing literacy challenges, including transportation, financial or technical barriers. The Friends of the Laguna Niguel Library and Friends of the Murrieta Library will use community donations in their bookstores to help fund county library programs. Since its launch in 2023, the Lift Up Literacy program has facilitated the donation of more than 37,000 books.

“The San Diego County Library is immensely grateful for the overwhelming support shown by SDCCU members during the third year of the ‘Lift Up Literacy’ campaign,” said SDCL Library Director, Migell Acosta. “Thanks to your incredible donation of more than 14,000 books, thousands of children, teens, and adults across San Diego County will discover new stories, expand their knowledge, and pursue their dreams. Your generosity doesn’t just provide free books for all—it lifts up communities and strengthens our shared future. We are truly humbled by your dedication to literacy and cannot thank you enough for making this program such a powerful force for good in its third consecutive year."
