Ingrid Medrano of Rancho de la Nación Elementary School selected as winner of the Kona Kai staycation package

This year, SDCCU enhanced the program by partnering with CBS 8 to highlight the accomplishments of Classroom Heroes winners on CBS 8 and The CW, and added a grand prize of a five day luxury staycation at Kona Kai Resort in San Diego for one of the nine monthly honorees.

At a special grand prize selection event hosted at the SDCCU Live Studio at the iHeart Media offices on June 20, the nine 2024-2025 SDCCU Classroom Heroes honorees gathered in celebration as they eagerly waited to find out who had won the luxury staycation. Each teacher had the opportunity to select a box, with one containing the Kona Kai Resort grand prize certificate. Ingrid Medrano of Rancho de la Nación Elementary School randomly selected the winning box and was awarded the prize.

From September 2024 through May 2025, SDCCU honored one local San Diego County teacher each month as a “SDCCU Classroom Hero,” provided them with a $500 Visa gift card, Classroom Hero award and featured their accomplishments on CBS 8 and The CW. The SDCCU Classroom Heroes program will resume in September when its newest honoree is selected.
