SDCCU Lift Up Literacy Book Drive is Collecting Books to Support Local Literacy Efforts Led by San Diego County Library
Throughout October, donate new or gently used books at SDCCU branches in San Diego CountySAN DIEGO, Calif., (October 4, 2023) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, has partnered with the San Diego County Library (SDCL) to host a book drive aimed at promoting literacy throughout San Diego County. Throughout October, SDCCU’s Lift Up Literacy campaign will collect new and gently used books at all of San Diego County’s convenient SDCCU branch locations. Donations will be distributed by SDCL adding to its valued community resources.
Community donations will support SDCL initiatives dedicated to increasing access to reading throughout the county. SDCL encourages a love of reading in every way across its 33 branches, five kiosks, and Free Little Libraries, an honor-based book exchange program encased in welcoming mailbox-like structures placed in areas managing literacy challenges, including transportation, financial or technical barriers.
“We are proud to partner with the San Diego County Library System to help promote literacy throughout San Diego County,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “The San Diego County Library efforts to increase literacy in our community align with our efforts to support financial literacy in the communities we serve to help achieve a healthy, safe and thriving community. We’re excited about this new initiative and encourage the community to pass along new and gently used books to be enjoyed once more.”
Books will create additional avenues for SDCL to continue strengthening literacy, adding to existing programs and its physical and virtual hub of resources that allow citizens of all ages to experience education, entertainment and culture.
“We are passionate about serving the community to develop skills, nurture hope, and motivate a love of reading. From inclusive and diverse programming to empowering technical solutions, our team constantly finds innovative ways to attract new readers and enhance early literacy skills,” said Migell Acosta, SDCL
