San Diego Business Journal honors standout leaders making an impact in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (August 2, 2023) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is proud to announce that SDCCU Executive Vice President, Chief Experience Officer & Digital Channels, Nathan Schmidt, was named among San Diego Business Journal’s 2023 Leaders of Influence in Advertising, PR & Marketing. The award recognizes San Diego’s top leaders who are positively impacting their organization and the community.

Schmidt was selected for his dynamic leadership and unwavering focus on raising the bar on creativity, service, strategy and execution, which has resulted in exponential growth for SDCCU and impacted the overall credit union movement. With over 20 years of financial services management and marketing experience, Schmidt is responsible for strategic planning, brand management, marketing, digital channels, product development, business development, community and media relations and the overall customer experience at SDCCU. His approach to leadership materializes in an execution that leverages all resources to maximize results and awareness of the SDCCU brand and has greatly contributed to SDCCU’s growth and success. This includes propelling SDCCU to one of the top credit unions in the nation and being voted BEST Credit Union for 24th consecutive year, and for the fourteenth year in a row, BEST Financial Planner and BEST Mortgage Provider, BEST Auto Loan Provider, as well as being voted BEST Place to Work for the tenth year in the San Diego’s Best Union-Tribune Readers Poll.

Schmidt’s work has been acknowledged throughout his career with many awards. So far in 2023, Schmidt’s work has been recognized with Hermes Creative Awards and American Business Awards in multiple categories. In 2022, Schmidt was honored as one of SD Metro’s Men of Influence and Best Marketing Executives, a Gold DotCOMM Award for the SDCCU Blog, Viddy Awards in several categories and a Gold Stevie Award – Corporate Responsibility from the American Business Awards for SDCCU Stuff the Bus, an annual campaign that provides school supplies to students in need. In 2021, SDCCU was presented with the Dora Maxwell Award by the Credit Union National Association for SDCCU Stuff the Bus, a MarCom Gold Award for SDCCU’s Zip. Zero. Zilch. Mortgage Campaign, and a Hermes Creative Award for SDCCU’s Mobile Banking video. In 2020, Schmidt’s work was acknowledged with a MAC Award and he was also recognized with the highest honor as the MACQUEE winner. SDCCU also recognized with two MarCom Awards for its New Mobile Banking video and SDCCU Stuff the Bus campaign.

Schmidt has a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento, and a MBA from Saint Mary’s College of Moraga, California. From 2012-2023, Schmidt has served as a member of the board of directors of the San Diego Bowl Game Association (SDBGA), a non-profit organization which produces the Holiday Bowl®.
