Donations to Working Fur Kids fundraiser will help bring joy to patients through canine companions

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (August 18, 2026) – San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is proud to announce their support of the Rady Children’s Health Resident Canine Therapy Program, through their partnership with CBS 8 for an on-air Giveathon. The Giveathon will be held on Wednesday, August 26 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Team SDCCU on-site at the CBS studio answering phones from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All donations collected will go toward hiring specialized workers who live and work with specially trained dogs that go into hospitals and help pediatric patients receiving treatment.

The planned Resident Canine Therapy Program will bring expertly trained dogs and therapists to patients at Rady Children’s Health to help provide comfort and companionship to patients as they undergo treatment. Research shows that therapy dogs help calm patients and are beneficial to controlling pain and blood pressure among pediatric patients. Interacting with therapy dogs can help elevate a patient’s mood due to the chemical reactions that occur with the release of serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin.
