San Diego County Credit Union’s Biz Kids Program:
San Diego County Credit Union® will present the SDCCU® Biz Kid$ Program, a resource for teachers to help teach their students about money and business. SDCCU launched the program in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and the County of San Diego, in support of Live Well San Diego, in 2015. Biz Kid$ is an award-winning, comprehensive financial literacy program focused on teaching kids how to use credit wisely and about the importance of saving, budgeting, investing and giving back to their communities. The Biz Kid$ program and all episodes are based on national standards for financial literacy and entrepreneurship education, and have been mapped to individual state standards. SDCCU will be offering teachers a chance to enter-to-win a complete program at the event.
Vertex’s New Learning Lab:
Vertex is a global biotechnology company that invests in scientific innovation to create medicines for people with serious and life threatening diseases. Their passion for helping to make lives better extends beyond individuals with serious diseases to include the communities in which they live and work. Educational programs in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) are a natural fit with their business. One of the main missions of the STEAM program and Learning Lab is to support and inspire under-resourced students to become the next generation of scientific leaders, This facility provides students and teachers the opportunity to learn from Vertex scientists and explore cutting-edge technologies in the onsite Learning Lab. The lab has capacity for up to 30 students and the program consists of 4 hours on site. They offer a list of experiments to choose from for schools that visit the site. During the visit students and teachers have an opportunity to establish lab and scientific inquiry skills that can be applied to real life scenarios. Come and explore the learning lab and learn about the resources they have to engage students in science. Vertex recognizes that supporting teachers and encouraging their continued professional development is vital to student achievement and success.
Music Notes Program:
Music Notes is an educational music company founded by Jimmy Pascascio and LaMar Queen, two middle school teachers in South Central Los Angeles. Their goal is to increase student engagement in school by providing high quality educational music and videos to educators and their students. You’ll get to hear one of their motivational performances, learn about the power of using music in the classroom, and get a preview of their newest series on the dangers of vaping, and using music to empower students in the fight against vaping.
Space is limited, and registration is first come, first served. We look forward to celebrating the new school year and fall in San Diego on November 14th
