SDCCU has been selected as a finalist for a 2014 Cybersecurity Award from the San Diego Business Journal, a San Diego regional weekly business publication.
SDCCU was recognized for implementing critical infrastructure and technologies, controls and processes and educating employees resulting in enhanced protection for SDCCU networks, computers, assets and customers. SDCCU recently created a new process for mapping security controls that drew praise from regulators and peers.
“In recent years, the cybersecurity landscape has undergone drastic changes as new threats are constantly emerging due to the evolution of the Internet,” said Teresa Halleck, SDCCU President and CEO. “SDCCU’s talented IT team has been diligent in implementing policies and procedures and developing and enhancing critical infrastructure to protect the physical and cyber-based assets essential to our organization’s operations and customer safety.”
Improvements made to SDCCU’s critical infrastructure have included implementing in-depth, defensive security controls, which have featured a layered operational, cyber and physical control approach to security. A key element of SDCCU’s comprehensive approach includes the implementation of a Cybersecurity Awareness Training Program. The program has included seminars for customers, as well as training for branch managers, branch staff and senior management related to cybersecurity and social engineering.
“We are dedicated to creating a culture that is security aware and an environment where customers can feel comfortable knowing that their personal information is protected,” said Halleck.
SDCCU recently implemented several new security systems, including real-time system alerting and monitoring controls, online fraud detection and advance cyber-phishing takedown services. Enhancements to existing security programs range from data loss prevention, technology risk auditing and online customer authentication controls to sophisticated encryption systems, which keep information and data secure.
