San Diego County Credit Union Partners with Scripps Health Foundation to Sponsor Project Dulce

Diabetes care and education program addresses needs throughout the County

4/24/2014 12:00 a.m.

SDCCU, San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution, has partnered with Scripps Health Foundation to sponsor the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute’s (SWDI) Project Dulce—a diabetes care and education program that addresses the specific needs of diabetes patients in the greater San Diego area.

SDCCU’s support will allow Project Dulce to deliver a series of courses and educational resources that instruct and engage patients in preventing, managing and avoiding complications related to diabetes to help improve their lives. The partnership support will also allow SWDI to provide a minimum of 125 diabetes screenings, education and referrals at community events.

“SDCCU has supported Scripps and their community efforts for more than a decade and we are proud to continue our partnership through our sponsorship of the Project Dulce program,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “We aim to support initiatives that enhance lives and promote a vibrant, healthy and sustainable community. Project Dulce is a program that is doing just that—it is responding to a need and helping to improve the lives of San Diegans suffering from this disease.”

Project Dulce, initiated over 16 years ago, was designed by a broad collaboration of San Diego health care and community-based organizations. To date, the program has managed thousands of patients at Project Dulce program locations in San Diego. For more information, visit scripps.org.

“We are grateful to SDCCU for their support. This donation will help further Project Dulce’s mission of providing diabetes care and education that addresses the specific needs of individuals throughout San Diego County,” said Athena Philis-Tsimikas, M.D., corporate vice president, SWDI.
