SDCCU, San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution, was the proud presenting sponsor of the San Diego County Office of Education’s Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) awards. The 13th annual iVIE Awards, held last night at the Civic Theatre in downtown San Diego, honored elementary, middle and high school students for their original video work. It marked the fifth consecutive year that SDCCU was the presenting sponsor of the iVIE Awards.
“SDCCU was proud to sponsor the iVIE Awards program and the efforts of the San Diego Office of Education to promote technology and innovation in the classroom. The iVIE Awards present a unique opportunity to reward a higher level of learning and creativity of the student filmmakers and their teachers,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “With a continued commitment to innovation, SDCCU is leading the way in delivering breakthrough banking products and financial services. We know first-hand the power of creative genius and the need to encourage, embrace and reward it in future generations.”
The Oscar-like awards ceremony was held May 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the San Diego Civic Theatre in downtown San Diego. The event drew more than 1,200 students, parents, teachers and supporters. SDCCU provided a $500 prize to the Grand Recognition winner in each age group. Select videos are aired on ITV/Channel 16 in San Diego. For more event information, visit ivieawards.org.
The main purpose of iVIE is to encourage students to utilize video production as a project-based learning tool. Since 2001, iVIE has grown into a major video competition with hundreds of video submissions each year that are judged by media professionals and educators. Entries are submitted in a variety of categories ranging from math, science and language arts to documentary and public service announcements. Categories include all grade levels (elementary to high school) and in every curriculum area, from math to broadcast journalism.
