San Diego County Credit Union supporting diabetes care and education program
SDCCU is sponsoring concert fundraiser benefiting Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute
8/12/2014 12:00 a.m.
SDCCU, San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is proud to support the Scripps Health Foundation and its Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute (SWDI), Southern California’s leading diabetes center of excellence, committed to providing the best evidence-based diabetes screening, education and patient care in San Diego.
SDCCU’s support includes SWDI’s Project Dulce, a diabetes care and education program that addresses the specific needs of diabetes patients in the greater San Diego area. The project is dedicated to “Diabetes Excellence Across Communities,” with a mission of improving the lives of people with diabetes through community-based diabetes management, education and support programs.
SDCCU’s support helps Project Dulce deliver a series of courses and educational resources that instruct and engage patients in preventing, managing and avoiding complications related to diabetes to help improve their lives. The partnership support also allows SWDI to provide a minimum of 125 diabetes screenings, education and referrals at community events.
“We applaud the work of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute for its leadership and efforts in the struggle to overcome this disease,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “We aim to support initiatives that enhance lives and promote a vibrant, healthy and sustainable community. Project Dulce is a program that is doing exactly that—it is responding to a need and helping to improve the lives of San Diegans suffering from this disease.”
SDCCU also is a proud sponsor of the 15th annual benefit for Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute. The fundraiser will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at Humphrey’s by the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Dr., San Diego. The night will feature a performance by “Oh, What A Night,” a musical group featuring the music of the Jersey Boys. The concert fundraiser will bring together not only the best of the new hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys, but also will adapt more great songs by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Dinner and silent and live auctions are included. Tickets cost $200 per person. For event information, visit scripps.org
Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with gestational, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes through innovative educational programs, clinical expertise, leading-edge research and professional cross-disciplinary collaborations in pursuit of prevention and a cure.
