San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), San Diego’s largest locallyowned financial institution, has announced it will host the SDCCU Super Shred Event, featuring free document shredding services, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, in the Qualcomm® Stadium northwest parking lot located at 9449 Friars Road, San Diego.
The public is invited to bring all of their old documents containing personal and confidential information. ShredIt®, the world's leading document destruction and recycling company, will be onsite to shred documents on thespot at no charge. Paper documents should be removed from binders prior to shredding; however, staples and paperclips are okay to be shredded.
This year, SDCCU is planning to shred the Guinness World Record® for most shred paper collected in 24 hours. SDCCU hopes the community brings all of their shred and helps put San Diego on the map. The first 1,000 who take advantage of SDCCU’s free shredding services on July 20 will receive a free gift. Plus, there will be free food and donations are welcome for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. Since 2007, when SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events, more than 476,545 pounds of confidential, sensitive paper documents have been shredded on the spot and recycled at no charge, saving approximately 4,698 trees. SDCCU will need to shred more than 156,880 pounds of paper to beat the Guinness World Record, currently held by KHQ, American West Bank and Secure Shred.
“SDCCU is committed to doing good in our local communities and helping our customers protect their
confidential data and privacy,” said Teresa Halleck, San Diego County Credit Union President and CEO. “We are committed to preventing identity theft as well as our efforts to go green with our online banking services, such as eStatements and eReceipts. We’re really having fun with it this year in attempting to set a new world record.”
