San Diego County Credit Union Helps to Educate Community on the Prevention of Elder Financial Abuse and Exploitation

 

SDCCU presents free elder abuse webinar with resources as part of SDCCU’s Financial Wellness Wednesdays

 
SAN DIEGO, Calif., (July 7, 2020) –  San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions is committed to helping prevent the financial exploitation of older adults by educating the community on warning signs and the resources available if they suspect elder financial abuse. To help educate the community on this horrible crime, SDCCU will present a free educational webinar on Elder Financial Abuse on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. (PT). The webinar format allows the community to join the presentation online from the safety of their own homes.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) reports that since 2013 financial institutions have reported nearly 200,000 suspicious activities targeting elders for a total of more than $6 billion. The CFPB estimates that the average monetary loss of a victim of elder financial abuse is $34,200.
