Over 55,000 pounds of paper collected, 470 trees saved at latest SDCCU Shred Day Event

SDCCU Super Shred Event is happening June 24 at Qualcomm Stadium

SDCCU is committed to helping the community properly dispose of sensitive data, an effort that landed them their fourth Guinness World Record® for the most paper collected in 24 hours in one location in July 2016. SDCCU’s latest free Shred Day Event, held at three locations on March 18, resulted in a total of 55,250 pounds of paper collected and shredded.

“SDCCU is happy to provide this free opportunity for the community to properly dispose of confidential information. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these events, and if you missed this one, please come down to Qualcomm® Stadium on June 24 where we will be shredding documents and going for our fifth Guinness World Record,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.

Last year at the SDCCU Super Shred Event, SDCCU earned its fourth Guinness World Record for the most paper collected in a 24-hour period at a single location. The exciting occasion—held at Qualcomm Stadium—helped thousands of people, resulted in the collection of a total of 589,251 pounds of paper and saved 5,000 trees. SDCCU plans to break the record again this year at their next SDCCU Super Shred Event scheduled for June 24, 2017 at Qualcomm Stadium.

SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 2.5 million pounds of documents at no charge, saving nearly 22,000 trees (roughly 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree). The events have also saved the community over $280,000 in costs associated with shredding documents. SDCCU was the first financial institution and remains the only to be named a Live Well San Diego partner for its efforts in helping to create a safer San Diego by providing free shredding services to the community.
