The final San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl was played on December 21, 2016 at Qualcomm Stadium®. SDCCU was the proud title sponsor of the Poinsettia Bowl since its inception in 2005, and we are incredibly proud of the impact it has had on San Diego. It helped to boost tourism dollars for local businesses in and around San Diego. It also provided an exciting and family-friendly activity for SoCal residents to look forward to year after year. And last, but not least, it created an opportunity to raise money for local programs, like our named beneficiary Biz Kid$. In 2016, with your help, we raised $30,000 for Biz Kid$, which will go directly into programs to help teach local school-age students about money and business.

From the reunited rivals and charitable donations to some of the lesser known stats from game day, here’s a visual review to look back on the excitement of the 2016 SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl.SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl Infographic

The 2016 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl Matchup

Just over 28,100 fans filed into a festive Qualcomm® Stadium on December 21, 2016 for our favorite bowl game, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. This year had a fantastic fan turnout and the game was a nail-biter to the end. Let's take a quick look back at the day and some of our favorite stats.

This year's SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl matchup was between the University of Wyoming Cowboys and the Brigham Young University Cougars. These two teams were once rivals before BYU left the Mountain West Conference to be an independent team. In fact, it had been six long years since both teams went head-to-head.

In the end, the BYU Cougars brought home the trophy with a 24-21 win over the Wyoming Cowboys. Both teams fought hard and gave the game their all. We would like to thank the teams, their families and the fans for traveling to San Diego and for attending the game.
