5 Inexpensive Ways to Stay Cool This Summer
Are you looking for ways to create a great summer experience without breaking the bank? We’ve got 5 ideas to help you make unforgettable summer memories – and best of all, they’re all free!
  1. Parks & Playgrounds
Whether you live in a small town or a big city, chances are there’s a free park nearby ready for you to stop and enjoy. Look for one with good shade cover. Swing sets and slides are great places for kids to run and play, but they’re fun for adults too! Take the kids to the playground, or go after sunset with someone special and swing side by side.
  1. Beaches & Swimming
Southern California is known for its seemingly endless stretches of beautiful beaches! Grab a towel, cooler and your friends and enjoy what the region is all about. When the summer rays heat up and you need to cool off, look into the many ways to swim for free this summer. See if local pools in your area offer free swim days, or check out the lakes, swimming holes and of course beaches in your area.
  1. Museums
Nearly all museums offer free admission days, so figure out when you can go for free and enjoy an afternoon of learning spent in air conditioned comfort. Many local libraries also offer free passes to museums and other attractions, so be sure to check to see what deals are available for you.
  1. Hiking/Camping
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a quiet weekend reconnecting with nature. National Parks and other nature areas often have marked hiking trails and usually indicate the trail’s suggested skill level, which provide options for novices as well as more experienced hikers. Some campsites charge to rent a site, but others let campers stay for free. Look for the free campsites in your area and then pack up the car, the tents and the marshmallows!
  1. Outdoor Theater
Whether you’re watching Shakespeare in the park or a summer musical, SoCal neighborhoods with their refreshingly cool evenings are the perfect place to enjoy theater in the summer. Look in local community newspapers for what performances are happening in your neck of the woods.
