What browsers are recommended to meet security standards?
The following browsers are recommended:
• Microsoft Internet Explorer™ - 6.0 or higher
• Mozilla Firefox™ - 1.0.7 or higher
• Netscape Navigator™ - 6.1 or higher
How do I check my browser version?
From the menu bar at the top of your browser do the following:
• Internet Explorer: Help > About Internet Explorer
• Firefox: Help > About Mozilla Firefox
• Netscape: Help > About Netscape
How do I check my browser to make sure it is using 128-bit encryption?
To check your browser’s encryption level, do the following:
• Internet Explorer: Help > About Internet Explorer. If your cipher strength is not 128-bit, you will need to upgrade.
• Firefox: Help > About Mozilla Firefox. Either a ‘U’ or an ‘I’ will display after the platform information. A ‘U’ indicates that you are using the U.S. version with sufficient 128-bit encryption. An ‘I’ indicates that you are using the International version with a lower 40-bit encryption. You will need to upgrade if you see the ‘I’.
• Netscape: Help > About Navigator. The window will show version and cipher strength. If your cipher strength is not 128-bit, you will need to upgrade.
What is SSL?
SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. SSL is a cryptographic protocol that provides security and data integrity for communications via the Internet.
How do I enable my browser to use SSL?
Do the following to enable SSL:
• Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced, scroll to the bottom. SSL and TLS options (all versions) should be checked.
• Firefox: Tools > Options > Advanced, select the Encryption tab. SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 options should be checked.
•
